"Life
itself - our human lives - is a gift. Our lives, our talents,
our abilities, our privilege to be human are given to us, and
like all gifts they are not to be hoarded . . . but must be passed
on lest they stagnate and decay. In the ancient circles of gift
. . . each individual knew that his or her gifts would be reciprocated
someday, in some way . . . each gift eventually finds its way,
usually in some altered form, back to the giver. "
Charles Eisenstein

Living Gently Retreats:
We now hold regular self catering retreats that offer you
a quiet get away for either one, two or three nights. Take
time to meditate, walk, swim in the dam or just relax. This
retreat is self catering, has no schedule and there is nothing
you have to do while you are here. Please contact me for
upcoming dates.

Henry and Constance:
A pair of Burchell Zebras have found a new home at Welbedacht.
They have settled in peacefully and can be spotted grazing,
swishing their tales and blinking their beautiful lashes!
|
Going Green:
At Welbedacht every care has been taken to use, where possible,
only products that are earth friendly. We order our supplies
locally from Faithful
to Nature, and make use of natural, bio-degradable cleaning
agents, gentle cleaning soaps and washing powders free from
harmful substances, and, where and when possible, green
loo paper! If you are inspired to order earth-friendly products
for your home or business, please visit their website.
|
Decrease your carbon footprint:
In an effort to create awareness around lifestyle choices,
both at Welbedacht and for those who visit, we will be planting
a tree every time a guest unit is booked for a retreat weekend.
Trees offer a host of benefits including the reduction of
carbon emissions, the encouragement of bird life, maintenance
of soil quality, shade for smaller plant and insect environs
and, of course, the creation of shady meditation spots!
|
Accommodation:
We have completed our two new guest units. They are situated
in the newly thatched building next to The Retreat Centre,
which also houses the office/reception. Both rooms have
a double bed and an en suite bathroom and can be booked
in conjunction with retreats. With cosy, loft accommodation
in the Retreat Centre; comfortable, self –catering
cottage accommodation; and now the newly finished guest
units, we are able to accommodate up to 24 people. Please
email me should you require more information.

Cape Nature:
In partnership with Cape Nature, we have started our alien
vegetation clearance program. Alien plants generally consume
vast amounts of water; their removal brings streams and
springs back to life and encourage the re-growth of indigenous
flora including endangered plant species. As part of this
program we also clear small pines around the cottages, creating
uninterrupted views of the peaceful valley.
|
Game:
Our springbok and bontebok have been allocated 15 hectares
of land for grazing and dancing in the long grass. Old fencing
has been replaced with new game fencing, ensuring the animals
are safe and can roam happily. Our game is kept for conservation
purposes, and when numbers increase animals are traded to
other reserves and conservatories for the same purpose.
